Proteomics Research: Interview with Dr. Susan Lee

RBI is pleased to offer a new edition to its podcast series during Retinoblastoma Awareness Week, (May 8-15).

 

 

 

This podcast features a discussion with Dr. Susan Lee, Director of the Proteomics Core at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.  In the interview, Dr. Lee outlines what proteomics is – and why it is such an important area of research. She describes what her work entails and what makes it unique among other types of proteomics research projects around the country and across the globe. For example, she says that most other projects tend to focus on adult diseases, such as prostate or breast cancer, while hers is unusual in its emphasis on diagnosis and treatment of pediatric diseases.

 

While her efforts are focused on retinoblastoma and osteosarcoma (a common secondary cancer for retinoblastoma survivors), Dr. Lee points out that the results of her research could have implications for all kinds of pediatric and adult health issues. In addition, a key objective is to help reduce the amount of costly and invasive testing, which could positively impact children all around the world.

 

Dr. Lee also discusses the role RBI has played in furthering her research efforts.
